Omnion is the solo project of musician and composer Tomáš Reindl, in which he brings together under one skin many layers and inspirations from the musical traditions of East and West, along with new musical approaches and techniques.
Besides traditional instruments (tabla, didgeridoo, the Wallachian proto-clarinet and the koncovka overtone flute, among others) and the human voice (overtone singing, Gregorian chant, rhythm recitation), Omnion uses real-time looping and layering technology, so that polyphonic choirs, rhythmic structures and ambient textures are born literally before the listeners’ eyes and ears.
Omnion plays not only listening, ambient and chill-out sets but also dance sets. The electronics, however, are always combined with live instruments and voices.
Omnia is Latin for “everything”; the syllable Om, according to Indian philosophy, expresses the primordial sound that contains all tones. Georg Ohm is the name of the physicist who defined the same thing from a physical point of view in Ohm’s acoustic law. And an onion is that beneficial vegetable whose layers recall not only the spheres of the microcosm and macrocosm, but also musical layers and textures.
