The duo of the pianist Emil Viklický and the saxophonist and bass clarinettist Pavel Hrubý came out of a spontaneous idea: Viklický was captivated by the sound of Hrubý’s bass clarinet when his trio met the band Limbo on the stage of Jazz Dock around 2019. In 2020 the pair recorded the album Between Us (Amplión Records, CD and LP); it contains five pieces by Viklický, three by Hrubý, three joint improvisations and one cover. On JazzPort, Jan Hocek called it one of the best European duo albums of the year. Besides jazz, the duo’s music draws on blues, classical music and Moravian folklore. After the response to the recording they began to perform live and summed up their collaboration with a second, live album, Live at JazzDock (Amplión Records, 2025), recorded at Jazz Dock on 28 March 2025.
