Vertigo Quintet

Biography

Vertigo Quintet was founded at the end of 2002 by the saxophonist Marcel Bárta, the trumpeter and singer Oskar Török, the pianist Vojtěch Procházka, the drummer Daniel Šoltis and the double bassist Rastislav Uhrík. Most of the pieces are written by Bárta and Procházka; the band grew out of jazz and combines free improvisation, compositions close to contemporary classical music, electronics and song form. The debut Vertigo Quintet (Amplión Records, 2005) won the Anděl award for jazz and blues, and the live album Live U Staré paní (Amplión Records, 2006) was made with the guest Lenka Dusilová. Since 2008 it has performed as the sextet Vertigo with the cellist and singer Dorota Barová, has released the albums Metamorphosis (2011), Taj (2014), NONONONONINININI (2016), Daleko (2019) and Nic (2022) on Animal Music and has three jazz Anděl awards.
