Tomáš Vybíral Trio

Biography

The Tomáš Vybíral Trio is a piano trio founded in 2012 by the drummer and composer Tomáš Vybíral, the pianist and vibraphonist František Krtička and the double bassist and bass guitarist Ondřej Štajnochr. Vybíral, a double bassist of the National Theatre and a professor at the Prague Conservatory, came to jazz drums as a counterweight to classical music and brings his own compositions to the trio. Krtička, a graduate in composition and arranging from the Prague Conservatory, where he has taught since 2009, is the author of the arrangements. The trio plays modern jazz of its own making and jazz standards in new arrangements, often with guests (Kryštof Marek, Zuzana Mikulcová, Jan Hasenöhrl). On Amplión Records it released the albums Abstract Life and Jazz Pictures About My Country (2012), a jazz suite inspired by Smetana’s Má vlast. More at tomvybiraltrio.cz.
