Tomáš Vybíral is a drummer and double bassist. Classical double bass is his main profession: he is a member of the National Theatre orchestra in Prague and teaches double bass at the Prague Conservatory. He studied jazz drums privately with Roman Vícha, Jan Linhart, Pavel Razím and Ondřej Vomáčka, and in his own compositions he brings the two worlds together. He leads the Tom Vybíral Trio with pianist and vibraphonist František Krtička and double bassist Ondřej Štajnochr; the trio plays original pieces in the spirit of modern jazz and its own arrangements of standards. On Amplión Records the trio released the albums Abstract Life and Jazz Pictures About My Country (both 2012), the latter a multimedia project inspired by Smetana’s Má vlast.
