Heterofón is a ten-member Brno ensemble led by the clarinettist, saxophonist and composer Pavel Zlámal. The name refers to heterophony, a deliberate “non-uniformity” of performance: every performance differs within certain limits not only in the solos but also in the arrangements, and the bandleader intervenes with conducting cues. The ensemble moves on the border of composition and improvisation and combines jazz with free playing and the sound of contemporary art music. Its members are Václav Pálka (drums), Juraj Valenčík (double bass), Martin Konvička (piano), Jaroslav Šťastný (Hammond organ), Mikuláš Koska (French horn), Jozef Zimka (trumpet), Šimon Pavlík (trombone), Jana Zmeškalová (bassoon), Dalibor Vinklář (tuba) and Edgar Mojdl (flutes). Amplión Records released the album Mezitím v Brně in 2018. More at pavelzlamal.com.
