The band MED was formed in 2004. It consists of the guitarist Mirek Šmilauer, the keyboardist Viliam Béreš, the drummer and percussionist Martin Kopřiva and, since 2006, the bass guitarist Jaryn Janek; Šmilauer and Janek also work with loopers. The band plays mostly original instrumental music that defies genre, a mixture of rock, jazz, funk and nu jazz, and builds on a precise and playful expression. It treats its pieces as stories without words, with unexpected twists and an inner dynamic. It has performed in Prague jazz clubs and at festivals in Boskovice, at Jazz na ulici in Plzeň and at Jazz Goes to Town in Hradec Králové. The album Dirty Movie Music was released by Amplión Records in 2008; the singers Lenka Dusilová, Michael Kubesa and Petra Janková, the saxophonist Jakub Doležal and David Koller (gong) guest on it.
