The Zlín band Apoaché was formed in 2003 after the break-up of another group in which its members had known each other. It plays exclusively its own music and refuses to be pinned down to a single style: it combines modern pop, jazz, Latin music and world music, with female vocals and lyrics on the border of poetry set to music. In 2005 it won the Zlín competition Setkání kytaristů and thanks to that made it to the Colours of Ostrava festival. The debut album Flyaway was released by Amplión Records in 2007 with the line-up Michaela Vrlová (vocals), Jiří Olšan (keyboards), Radek Bednařík (saxophones), Jan Podhorný (guitar), Jakub Lutner (bass guitar) and Vladan Kubíček (drums); by the time of the launch the singer Sue Sapárová, the saxophonist Karel Přikryl and the bass guitarist Petr Foltýn were also playing with the band. Today it performs under the name APOA and plays alternative pop and soul.
